Best Budget Hotel Brand 2026

Why budget done well is hard

Enter this category Sponsor this category

Budget done well is harder than luxury done well. The luxury brand has the rate to absorb the soft costs of service; the budget brand has to deliver a clean, modern, well-engineered stay at a price corporate procurement teams want to see falling year on year, in markets where labour and energy costs are going the other way.

The brands that get it right are the ones the corporate programme builds whole categories of travel around.

The Best Budget Hotel Brand award, part of the Travelling for Business Awards 2026, recognises the brand doing this at scale. It is a serious category, not a default one. Judging is grounded in what corporate programmes actually buy budget for: the room itself (bed, soundproofing, blackout, shower), the breakfast, the Wi-Fi that has to work at 0700 on a Monday, the network density in the cities and roadside locations the programme needs, and the actual rate against the actual product.

Eligible entrants are global, regional or national budget and economy hotel brands operating a marketed corporate or SME programme. The category sits alongside Best Upscale Hotel Brand and Best Luxury Hotel Brand; brands operating across multiple segments enter each segment separately.

Judging is informed by STR budget and economy segment data and GBTA buyer research, alongside submitted evidence, panel usage and editorial reporting in Travelling for Business magazine. Sustainability operations are increasingly weighted, in line with corporate procurement direction and UKHospitality industry guidance.

The 2026 panel includes buyers responsible for budget hotel programmes at scale. Sponsorship is open, see the sponsorship page.

What we look for

The Best Budget Hotel Brand 2026 judging criteria.

Budget done well is harder than luxury done well, and judges weigh it on the basics corporate programmes actually buy. The room product itself, bed, soundproofing, blackout, shower, comes first. Breakfast, the most-debated budget feature, is assessed for quality, not just inclusion. Wi-Fi has to work for the traveller doing email at 0700; speed and reliability are tested, not assumed. Network density in the cities and roadside locations corporate volume needs is the fourth axis, alongside value, the actual rate against the actual product. Sustainability operations are increasingly part of the corporate decision and form part of the score.
