About this entry

Why easyHotel was shortlisted.

easyHotel is a Finalist for Best Budget Hotel Brand at the 2026 Travelling for Business Awards, and it competes as the segment's true radical: where others trim the traditional hotel, easyHotel rebuilt it from zero. Borrowing the unbundled logic of its famous orange family, the brand asks a simple question — what does a traveller actually need? — and charges for precisely that: a clean, comfortable, safe room in a central location, with extras from breakfast to housekeeping available as paid options rather than baked into the rate. The result is city-centre beds at prices the rest of the industry cannot see without binoculars.

The estate now spans the UK and continental Europe's major cities, with a pipeline focused on exactly the dense, transit-linked locations the model was built for. Rooms are compact, quiet and increasingly well designed — the brand has moved decisively past its bare-bones origins — and digital-first operations keep both costs and check-in queues minimal. The model also weathers downturns better than most: when corporate belts tighten, easyHotel's phones ring more, not less — countercyclical resilience the segment's premium names envy. Sustainability is a genuine story too: small, efficient rooms in walkable locations give the brand one of the lighter footprints per guest-night in European hotelkeeping.

The customer base tells its own story. Research showed Gen Z festivalgoers choosing easyHotel rooms over tents — the young travel market voting for walls, showers and £30-something rates — and the brand's playful streak surfaced again with its first-ever afternoon tea, swapping scones for sausage rolls at a price point true to the house religion. Behind the wit sits a serious business-travel proposition: for SMEs, contractors and cost-capped public-sector travel, easyHotel makes the city trip viable on budgets the mainstream brands abandoned years ago. Franchise partners extend the orange footprint further still, taking the formula into new cities with local capital and central discipline.

The nomination recognises the discipline of genuine low cost — not cheapness, but engineering. Someone has to keep the floor of the market honest, and nobody does it with more orange conviction.

Winners will be announced at the 2026 Travelling for Business Awards, and easyHotel will keep the celebration strictly pay-as-you-go.
