Perched at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic, the Rock offers UK travellers a rare combination: sterling currency, English as the official language, familiar plugs and pints, and more than 300 days of sunshine a year.
The timing of the partnership could hardly be better. As Travelling for Business reported, the UK and EU finalised a historic Gibraltar treaty in July 2026, promising an end to the land border queues that long complicated trips combining the Rock with southern Spain. With checks moving to Gibraltar’s airport and port, travellers can move freely between the territory and the Costa del Sol, opening up Andalusia as a natural extension to any Gibraltar itinerary.
Gibraltar punches far above its weight as a business destination. A major centre for financial services, insurance and online gaming, it draws a steady flow of corporate visitors from the UK, served by direct flights from London and other British airports into an airport famously minutes from the city centre. For organisers, the tourist board runs a dedicated Gibraltar for MICE service covering meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions, with venues ranging from the five-star Sunborn yacht hotel to the historic Rock Hotel. Downtime in Gibraltar is anything but ordinary. The Gibraltar Nature Reserve on the Upper Rock is home to Europe’s only wild monkeys, the famous Barbary macaques, along with St Michael’s Cave, the Skywalk, the Windsor Suspension Bridge and the Great Siege Tunnels carved by hand in the 1780s. At Gorham’s Cave, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, evidence of Neanderthal life stretches back tens of thousands of years, and the calendar runs from the Gibraltar Fair in August to the Gibunco Literary Festival each November.
