Founded by Sir Jackie Stewart, Race Against Dementia applies Formula 1 thinking to the world's biggest health challenge. It is Capital Business Media's chosen charity for 2026 and 2027.
Founded by three-time Formula 1 World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, the global charity funds pioneering research into the prevention and cure of dementia, a condition that will affect one in three people born today.
The scale of the challenge is stark. Somewhere in the world, someone develops dementia every three seconds, and more than 55 million people are currently living with the condition. Sir Jackie founded the charity in 2016 after his wife, Lady Helen, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, channelling the same determination that won him 27 grands prix into a race of a very different kind.
What sets Race Against Dementia apart is its approach. The charity applies the discipline of Formula 1 to dementia research: precision, pace and continuous improvement. Rather than simply writing cheques, it backs exceptional early-career scientists through its Race Against Dementia Fellowships, giving researchers the time, support and environment to challenge how dementia is understood, diagnosed and treated.
Fellows are exposed to F1-style thinking on innovation and marginal gains, borrowing from a sport where development cycles are measured in days rather than years. Its Ignition Fund provides fast, flexible backing for bold new research ideas, exactly the sort of high-performance culture our readers will recognise from Formula 1’s approach to corporate hospitality and engineering alike.
Dementia touches almost every workplace and every family in Britain, and the business travel community is no exception. Across 2026 and 2027, Capital Business Media will support the charity across its titles and events, including the Travelling for Business Awards in London this October. Race Against Dementia is a registered charity in England and Wales (1165559) and in Scotland (SC052594), regulated by the Fundraising Regulator.
Every pound raised backs scientists racing to change how dementia is prevented, diagnosed and treated. Join the race at raceagainstdementia.com, or donate directly here.
