About this entry

Why Loganair was shortlisted.

Loganair is a Finalist for Best Short-Haul Airline at the 2026 Travelling for Business Awards — deserved recognition for the carrier that connects the parts of Britain the big networks cannot reach. The UK's leading regional airline does a job no one else will: linking the Highlands and Islands, the Northern Isles and regional England to the cities where business gets done, with schedules built for day-return meetings rather than holiday peaks.

The network reads like a public service with a boarding pass. Lifeline routes thread Orkney, Shetland and the Hebrides — including the world-famous beach landing at Barra — into Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh and Glasgow, while inter-city links put Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast and the Isle of Man within practical commuting reach. For the energy industry in particular, Loganair's Aberdeen schedules are working infrastructure, moving crews and contracts as dependably as any pipeline.

Growth is measured but purposeful. The airline opened a new Southampton base in October 2025, planting its flag on the south coast with routes that spare travellers the M25, and it has strengthened Jersey connectivity with four new direct routes, Paris among them — the Channel Islands' business community being precisely the sort of underserved market the carrier exists for. The fleet of ATR turboprops and Embraer regional jets is right-sized for these missions: small enough to make thin routes viable, comfortable enough that an hour on board passes easily.

Smart partnerships punch above the airline's weight. Loganair has adopted Avios as its loyalty currency, letting Scotland's island commuters earn and spend in the same ecosystem as British Airways flyers, and interline agreements feed its passengers smoothly into long-haul networks at the major hubs. The heritage runs deep too: flying since 1962 and proudly branded Scotland's airline, the carrier has spent six decades learning weather, geography and customers that outsiders repeatedly underestimate.

A Finalist's berth in 2026 recognises that excellence in short-haul flying is not only measured in fleet size: reliability on a gale-swept island runway counts for more than a lie-flat seat ever could. Winners will be announced at the 2026 Travelling for Business Awards, and no nominee's network matters more to the communities it serves.
