About this entry

Why Bulgari was shortlisted.

Bulgari is a Finalist for Best Luxury Hotel Brand at the 2026 Travelling for Business Awards, and it is the category's purest exercise in brand translation: a Roman jeweller founded in 1884, applying the logic of high jewellery to hotels. The result is a collection run like a vitrine — fewer than a dozen pieces worldwide, each set in a city that matters, each finished to a standard that makes the point the marketing never needs to.

The formula was struck in Milan, where the first Bulgari Hotel opened in a private garden off Via Montenapoleone, and it has travelled with remarkable fidelity: London in Knightsbridge, Paris on Avenue George V, Rome on the Campidoglio's doorstep, with Dubai on its own seahorse-shaped island and Asian outposts in Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai and Bali. The design language — Italian modernism in dark timber, silver travertine and black marble, executed with Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel — is among the most recognisable in luxury, and the operating partnership with Marriott International's luxury group provides the hotel-craft ballast beneath the glamour.

The business-travel logic is sharper than the jewel-box image suggests. These are small hotels in prime financial and retail districts, engineered for privacy: bars that function as the city's most elegant meeting rooms, restaurants under Niko Romito's direction that impress a counterpart without a reservation battle being lost, spas built around serious pools, and suites whose views and finishes close arguments. For the traveller whose presence is itself confidential, the scale is the security. It helps that the addresses are small masterpieces of position — gardens and courtyards in the middle of cities that have neither — so the hotels function as retreats hiding in plain sight.

Bulgari competes here as proof that a luxury house can extend into hospitality without dilution — that the discipline of a jeweller, applied to service, produces hotels of unusual intention. The nomination recognises exactly that rigour. Travelling for Business tracks the luxury sector's brand extensions closely, and few have held their nerve — or their pricing power — like the Roman jeweller's.

Winners will be announced at the 2026 Travelling for Business Awards, and the Roman house will attend as it always does — immaculately set, quietly certain of its own carat.
