Cathay Pacific is a Finalist for Best Long-Haul Airline at the
2026 Travelling for Business Awards, and the nomination caps one of the most striking recoveries in modern aviation. Having rebuilt its network and its confidence, the Hong Kong flag carrier is once again flying — and investing — like the benchmark airline UK travellers remember.
The foundations are formidable. Hong Kong International remains one of the great connecting hubs for Greater China and the wider Asia-Pacific region, and Cathay Pacific's double-daily Heathrow service feeds it with schedules built for business itineraries: overnight out, arrive for the working day, with onward connections across the carrier's regional network. The airline has committed well over HK$100 billion — roughly £10 billion — to fleet, cabins, lounges and digital investment, and the results are increasingly visible to passengers.
In the air, the new Aria Suite business class is rolling out across the Boeing 777-300ER fleet, and London has been an early beneficiary, with the airline progressively upgrading its Heathrow rotations to the new cabin; a new premium economy and a refreshed economy product are arriving on the same aircraft, so the improvements reach every traveller on board, whatever the seat. On the ground, the flagship First lounge at Hong Kong, The Wing,
reopened in April 2026 after a full redesign, restoring one of aviation's most admired pre-flight spaces; a first dedicated New York lounge follows later in the year. Recognition has followed too, with the carrier
collecting multiple honours in AirlineRatings' World's Best Airlines for 2026, while oneworld membership and Asia Miles keep it woven into corporate loyalty strategies.
For corporate travellers, though, the enduring draw is subtler than any single product: it is the precision of the operation. Cathay Pacific's service style — calm, attentive, unshowy — suits the working flyer, and its punctuality and consistency make it easy to book with confidence on the London–Hong Kong trunk route and beyond. The hub itself completes the case, with efficient same-terminal transfers at Hong Kong International putting Taipei, Tokyo, Sydney and much of mainland China one smooth stop from London.
A place among the 2026 Finalists recognises both the recovery and the ambition behind it. The winners will be announced at the 2026 Travelling for Business Awards, and on current form Cathay Pacific will take some beating.
