About this entry

Why Riyadh Air was shortlisted.

Riyadh Air is a Finalist for Best Business Class Experience at the 2026 Travelling for Business Awards, and it enters the category with an advantage no legacy rival can buy: a blank page. While established airlines retrofit their way out of past compromises, Saudi Arabia's new flag carrier designed its business class from scratch for the way premium travellers actually live now.

Aboard the Boeing 787-9s serving the flagship London Heathrow route, the front cabin reflects contemporary best practice — privacy-led suites, flat beds, elegant Saudi-inflected design and screens sized for a device-first generation, wrapped in a digital experience that runs from booking through boarding without a paper stub in sight. The airline styles itself as digitally native, and the difference shows in the journey's connective tissue: a single, polished app carries the whole itinerary, the cabin crew arrive with service scripts written this decade, and the Sfeer loyalty programme was live from the first commercial flight.

Where Riyadh Air has moved fastest is the ground game, unusual for a carrier so young. A complimentary chauffeur offering now elevates the premium journey at the Riyadh end, collecting business passengers kerbside, while the Hafawa Lounge — the airline's first dedicated premium airport space — gives King Khalid International a calm, generously catered launchpad that signals how seriously the carrier takes the pre-flight hour. Few airlines have offered door-to-lounge polish this early in their existence.

Because every aircraft is new, there is no cabin lottery: the business class sold is the business class boarded, a consistency start-ups uniquely enjoy and corporate bookers quietly prize.

The premium ambition scales with the network. Partnership with Delta Air Lines points the product toward North America, new European and Asian destinations are joining the map at pace, and the incoming Airbus A321neo fleet has been specified with premium cabins to keep quality consistent on shorter sectors as the network thickens.

A place among the 2026 Finalists recognises a start-up that treated business class as its founding discipline rather than an eventual upgrade. Winners will be announced at the 2026 Travelling for Business Awards, and the newest cabin in the field may also be its most precisely aimed at how executives actually travel today.
