The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at Heathrow Terminal 3 is a Finalist for Best Airline Lounge at the
2026 Travelling for Business Awards, and almost three decades after it rewrote the rules, it remains the lounge other lounges are measured against — usually to their disadvantage. Where rivals offer their passengers somewhere to wait, the Clubhouse has always offered them somewhere to be.
The experience begins before the lounge does: Upper Class passengers arrive through the private Upper Class Wing, sliding from kerb through dedicated security into the Clubhouse in minutes. Inside, the space runs like a members' club with better views — a proper cocktail bar where the espresso martinis have their own devoted following, a brasserie serving cooked-to-order dining that makes airline food a compliment for once, a spa offering treatments, grooming and haircuts before a red-eye, and design that still photographs like a boutique hotel a decade into its current form. Work happens easily here too, with quiet corners, strong Wi-Fi and the unspoken permission to take a call from a velvet armchair.
The concept is expanding rather than resting. The airline announced plans to
bring its iconic Clubhouse to Los Angeles, extending the flagship formula to the West Coast, and closer to home a
new executive lounge at Manchester Airport has secured a Virgin Atlantic partnership, giving the airline's northern passengers a premium ground experience of their own. The Heathrow original, meanwhile, keeps evolving its menus and rituals with the airline's signature refusal to be boring.
For business travellers, the Clubhouse solves the pre-flight hours better than any competitor: arrive stressed, leave restored, board last because the gate is a stroll and the bar was better. It is the rare premium space that regulars describe with actual affection, and the first lounge many of them name unprompted when asked what a great one looks like.
A place among the 2026 Finalists confirms what Upper Class regulars have long known — the party at the end of the Wing is also one of the world's great airport spaces. Winners will be announced at the 2026 Travelling for Business Awards, and the original challenger lounge remains the one to beat.
