About this entry

Why British Airways Business Class was shortlisted.

Redemption arcs are rare in aviation, but British Airways' business class is living one. Named a Finalist in the Best Business Class Airline of the Year category at the 2024 Travelling for Business Awards, the flag carrier's Club World cabin has travelled a long way from the criticism of its previous generation.

The engine of the turnaround is the Club Suite. Introduced in 2019 and rolled out steadily across the long-haul fleet since, it swapped the old dense, aisle-hopping layout for what premium travellers had demanded for a decade: every seat with direct aisle access, a proper flat bed, generous storage and a sliding privacy door. On the routes that matter most to UK corporates, above all the North Atlantic, where the joint business with American Airlines coordinates schedules and products, the suite has made choosing the home carrier feel like a preference again rather than a compromise.

Around the seat, the ecosystem compounds. Heathrow Terminal 5 delivers dedicated premium check-in, fast-track security and an extensive lounge estate; catering and bedding have been meaningfully upgraded; and every Club World sector earns Avios and tier status within the airline's loyalty programme, while corporate schemes let the company bank rewards alongside the traveller. Few rivals can wrap a business-class seat in quite so much system.

The 2024 judges recognised a cabin in confident mid-transformation, improving with each newly refitted aircraft and backed by publicly committed investment across the premium experience. In a shortlist bristling with icons, Qatar Airways took the title, ahead of JetBlue Mint, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Atlantic Upper Class, the finalist nod marked how far and how fast the recovery has run.

The First cabin's halo quietly benefits every Club World traveller, too: the investment culture that sustains a true First product, catering standards, crew training, ground services, sets internal benchmarks the business cabin inherits. Meanwhile World Traveller Plus gives travel policies a graceful step-down option on the same metal, letting companies flex by route and seniority without changing airline, a full-spectrum flexibility no point-to-point premium specialist can match.

The Travelling for Business Awards measure premium cabins against the world's best, and British Airways Business Class ended 2024 back in that conversation on merit, with the stated ambition, and the hardware pipeline, to push higher still.
