There is a version of every business trip that runs entirely on Marriott: the airport Courtyard, the convention Sheraton, the closing-dinner Ritz-Carlton. That omnipresence, and the machinery behind it, earned the world's largest hotel company a Finalist place for Hotel Brand of the Year at the
2024 Travelling for Business Awards.
Marriott International's estate spans roughly thirty brands and more than nine thousand properties, a spectrum with no meaningful gaps: The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis and JW Marriott at the luxury summit; Westin, Sheraton and the flagship Marriott Hotels carrying the full-service and meetings core; Courtyard, Moxy and AC serving the select-service everyday; and extended-stay brands housing the project assignments other groups forget exist. Recent portfolio moves during the period pushed the group deeper into affordable midscale, extending the ladder's bottom rungs without disturbing its top.
The connective tissue is Marriott Bonvoy, loyalty's heavyweight champion, whose points, elite tiers and lifetime status keep road warriors inside the ecosystem for entire careers. In 2024 the company aimed squarely at an underserved segment with
Business Access by Marriott Bonvoy, a booking and spend-management platform giving small and medium-sized enterprises discounted rates, integrated flight, rail and car reservations and real-time reporting, managed-travel discipline for companies without travel managers, launched with research showing exactly how badly they wanted it.
Judges also weighed the group's unmatched meetings infrastructure, from ballroom-scale convention hotels to boutique boardrooms, which welds travel spend to events spend inside one negotiation. The 2024 title went to IHG Hotels & Resorts, with Mandarin Oriental and Radisson Blu alongside, but Marriott's finalist standing, compounded by Marriott Bonvoy's win in the rewards category, made the group a defining presence across the Awards.
Technology investment keeps the giant nimble. The Bonvoy app increasingly functions as the trip's remote control, mobile check-in and keys, chat with the front desk, folio management, while behind the scenes the group's booking and distribution platforms make Marriott inventory frictionless for corporate tools to consume. Scale, in Marriott's handling, is not weight but leverage: every improvement lands across nine thousand properties at once.
The
Travelling for Business Awards measure who moves business travel forward, and Marriott's 2024 recognition confirmed that the industry's largest player is also among its least complacent, which should worry everyone else.
